American Recordings, In 1989 the recordings for the fifth studio album began. Andy Wallace was engaged as co-producer. Seasons in the Abyss was released in October 1990 via Rick Rubin's new record label Def American. The album entered the US charts at number 44 and was awarded a gold record in 1993. The band recorded their first music video for the title track. For it, the band flew to Egypt to the Pyramids of Giza just before the second Gulf War. Another video was shot for War Ensemble in London.
