Oh yeah, weird. These days, anybody can be weird. Put on a clown suit, scream at the top of our lungs, add some blips here and there and you’ll be labelled as such. Easy. But being weird in 1992 was a whole different ball game, especially if you were part of the still fresh yet somehow conservative second wave of black metal. Then again, the so-to-be founding member of KAVIAR KAVALIER and then current guitar player of the equally out-of-this-world MASTER’S HAMMER Tomás Kohout already gave shithole about conventions or so-called rules. And what happens when a twenty years old six-stringer just freshly out of the recording of eastern Europe first ever black metal masterpiece Ritual decides to throw said rules out of the window and go berserk creatively speaking just by itself? You get NECROCOCK. Granted, for the last two decades or so, Kouhout – or one could say his insane avatar – has released no less than eight albums under this moniker, each crazier than its predecessor, including 2023’s Tafelmusik. So from a contemporary point of view, NECROCOCK very first recording may seem a tad more conventional. But as strongly suggested by its OOP moniker, Practices Of Undertakers proves in retrospect that the versatile musician (who performs every instrument here, making it a true solo work) was already all about fucking shit up and dancing around the flames while the rest of kept watching, in awe. The basic elements are all here, mind you – croaked vocals, fuzzy guitar sound, demonic stance and creepy keyboards. All ‘so 90s’. Yet, the way they’re all assembled and seemingly twisted beyond recognition – in one word, weird – remains to this day absolutely unique. Practices Of Undertakers ain’t just one extremely valuable document for all KAVIAR KAVALIER and early MASTER’S HAMMER fans out there, it’s one of the best ever demo to come out of the early 90’s Czech extreme metal scene. And this one-of-a-kind recording is now lovingly and carefully reissued officially for the first time by your ever reliable DOOMENTIA imprint
