"Storm Corrosion" was a musical collaboration between Mikael Åkerfeldt of the Swedish progressive metal band Opeth and Steven Wilson, an English solo artist and frontman of the progressive rock band Porcupine Tree. Åkerfeldt and Wilson began a long-standing musical partnership in 2001, when Wilson produced Opeth's fifth studio album, "Blackwater Park".
The two began writing together for a new project in 2010 and released their only self-titled studio album via Roadrunner Records in 2012. "Storm Corrosion" was a huge success and marked a paradigm shift for Åkerfeldt and Wilson. Rather than seeing the project as a progressive metal supergroup, the pair used it as an opportunity to explore their more esoteric musical tastes, including Comus and Scott Walker. There were no tours or live performances of the album and no plans for future music, instead the two decided to return to their respective other musical Projects.
