High Roller Records, reissue 2024, ltd 500, 24 page booklet, remastered & restored by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony One of many New Wave Of British Heavy Metal bands to bear the name, Newcastle’s Warrior announced their presence via the track ‘Flying High’ on the first Neat Records’ compilation cassette ‘Lead Weight’ in May 1981 and followed it up with a live in the studio single for the label the following year. Although dogged by line-up changes, the band recorded two further singles, a 12” EP entitled ‘For Europe Only’ in 1983 and ‘Breakout’, a three-track seven-incher in 1984, before splitting up. ‘Resurrection’ rounds up the material Warrior released on ‘For Europe Only’ and ‘Breakout’ and adds a further four tracks recorded by the band at the ‘For Europe Only’ session but never released until now. In addition, the album makes available on vinyl for the first time ‘Live In A Dive’, a ten-track live album recorded by Warrior’s first line-up and only officially released (and heavily bootlegged) on cassette back in 1982. Warrior tended to work as live as they could, with minimal overdubs to maintain a fresh, vibrant sound which captured their youthful enthusiasm. With the band now back in business and recording new material, ‘Resurrection’ is an opportunity to see how the band sounded back in the glory days on the NWOBHM. John Tucker January 2016
